Un-freaking-believeable.

I want to cry.

Remember this WHITE hoodie?

My WHITE hoodie

The one that's finished, but has only been photographed in 1 out of my 3 planned looks?

I had it on, ready to be photographed for Look #2 this afternoon, when my husband pointed out, "There's a couple of little stains on it. Why don't you run it through the wash, and we'll photograph it later?"

In with the white hoodie was a several-months-old red t-shirt that had been through the wash at least a half dozen times.

You guessed it, the hoodie is now pink. It's on it's second run now of being washed by itself with oxyclean, but I'm not sure that it can be saved for this contest. (We're going to be out of town Weds-Fri.) I don't see how I'm going to have time to make a 6th garment to replace it. I've still got about an hour's worth of sewing to go on my pants, too.

I wasn't going to win anyways, but I am incredibly bummed out by this. I feel like a marathon runner who turned her ankle at mile 25.

I am also open to suggestions on how to save this, if it's at all possible. The top is made out of cotton-lycra jersey, if that helps.

Update

We got a photo of my ill-fated top last night.  The lighting is poor, but you can definitely see that my previously white top is now baby-pink. *sad face*  My husband will be home today and has promised to give the Rit dye remover a shot on this. If that doesn't work, I'll be picking up some Rit dye on my way home, and we'll go a different direction with this piece.

  1. Oh no! I wish I had some advice, but I'm terrible at all things laundry related. If it makes you feel any better, you were my inspiration to enter the contest. Thank you for that!

  2. Have you tried washing it with a color catcher?

    1. I'm going to try that, and if that doesn't work, I'm going to dye it.

  4. Rit color remover. They should have it at your local Jo Ann Fabrics. Good luck!

  5. Oh no. I did read a post recently about someone who use dylon colour run remover (I think) and it worked. Good luck.

  6. Gah!!! How frustating!

The only things I can think of are colour catchers (which you're doing, obviously) and if that doesn't work, embracing the colour change and dying the hoodie. Without wishing to sound too Pollyanna about it, it could become a springboard to a whole new creative adventure!

  8. Oh no! I hope OxyClean is able to remove the coloring. If not, I'd try the Rit product previously mentioned. Good luck!! *hugs*

    1. I'm looking at doing an orchid color if we can't get the dye out. I like the color red, but I don't think it would coordinate with the other pieces on the mini-wardrobe.

  10. I've saved a few things with the rit product that is made for whites that are in trouble. It should resolve the issue. Next time sort any white you treasure. I noticed my daughter had all white towels and she puts her whites in with them which is much better than my toss it all in there system unless it is something I am being careful with.

    1. I've had several recommendations for the Rit product, so I'm going to try that first. If that doesn't work, then I'll dye it.

Normally, I separate my wash out into lights and darks; of course, the one time I don't is the one time that it bites me.

  11. This sucks!!! But I guess that means you'll have a different colored hoodie? I (stupidly) was using bleach in my mint eyelet dress.... well... you know how that goes. :( *feeling your pain*
